Symphony of the seas debuted in March 2018. Weighing at whopping 228,081-tonnes and being 1,188 feet long and over 215 feet wide, the Symphony of the Seas has a lot to offer:
  • The ship can hold up to 6,680 passengers and it took 3 years to build.
  • Apart from the the ship's 22 restaurants, 42 bars and lounges, theaters, ice skating rinks and zip lines, customers can choose from 2,759 rooms.
  • The costliest room is Ultimate Family Suite costing over $60,000!
  • Passengers have access to 24 pools, whirlpools, surf simulators and gigantic water slides, the highest having a 92 foot drop!
  • Hot tubs, sea spas, you name it, they have it for relaxation purposes.
  • For adventure, they have an inbuilt amusement park, a zipline at the ninth deck, 43 foot tall rock climbing walls, ice skating rinks and a lot more.
  • At the Bionic bar, robots roleplay bartenders! Also the ship has 22 restaurants with one of them having Alice in wonderland inspired cuisine!
It is a dream cruise for most of us.

Until about fifty years ago, most of the women of present-day Kerala in India used to wear undergarments called  onnara mundu  that literally translates to ‘one and a half a loincloth’. This was essentially a loincloth made of thinner cotton fabric and tied in a particular fashion. There used to be a little function for young girls on the threshold of puberty to move from a  konakam  or loincloth to the more sophisticated and feminine  onnara mundu . It was one of our rites of passage. The  onnara mundu  did for the waist what the corset did for the upper body for women in the West. The upper portion of the body was bare and so nobody really cared how ‘stuff’ grew :P All the focus was on the waist and downward. Largest Snakes in History Humans have an innate fear of snakes. Ophidiophobia is one of the most common phobias in the world, and studies have shown that most primates are genetically wired to detect snakes rapidly. Prehistory is writhing with snakes, but not just little ones - some were true giants. Everyone talks about  Titanoboa cerrejonensis.  I tend to refrain from writing about famous, popular fossil taxa, but it would be wrong to exclude it from this answer. So,  Titanoboa  was 12.8 metres long, a ton in weight, and commonly cited as the largest snake in history. To at least bring something new to the table, I should mention that  studies  have suggested that  Titanoboa  was more of a piscivore (fish-eater) than a megafauna-killer. Perhaps the snake was in fact a gentle giant? Before the discovery of  Titanoboa,  the title of largest snake went to a different species -  Gigantophis garstini .
